Diplomacy manages formal alliances and declared rivalries. These relationships differ from an informal agreement in chat. Management requires the Diplomacy permission.
Alliances require a request and acceptance. A family can use three alliance slots; its own pending outbound requests also count toward used slots. Active alliances are mutual. The server rechecks conflicts and slot availability at acceptance.
An accepted alliance has a 30-day lock before it can be ended. A pending outbound request can be cancelled separately. Allied families are excluded from ordinary family-war matchmaking.
PvP normally blocks attacks between allied families. An active system-recognized Family War or Zone War between the pair permits the alliance exception. Same-family attacks remain blocked. Do not promise that an alliance protects against every war situation.
A family can declare up to three active rivalries. Rivalries are directional for their bonus: the declaring family's qualifying PvP wins against its declared rival receive the rivalry Notoriety factor. A public relationship label can show a rivalry declared in either direction, so the label alone does not establish which side receives that bonus.
Relationship conflicts and lock periods are enforced by the server. Check the current diplomacy screen before making a new declaration.
