Crates contain a random reward. Opening one spends that crate and adds the result to your possessions. A crate's category indicates the kind of reward, rather than guaranteeing a particular item or rarity.
| Type | Reward category |
|---|---|
| Weapons crate | Weapons |
| Armour crate | Armor |
| Drugs crate | Drug products and drug consumables |
Open an owned crate through its action in Inventory. The result shows the item, quantity and rarity. A reward can be a stack of an item; it is not necessarily one unit.
Each crate uses a server-managed weighted loot table. Items with larger weights are more likely to be selected. Quantity ranges can differ between entries. The current configured table determines the actual odds, so rarity labels alone are insufficient to calculate an item's probability.
Different crate types have their own pools. Opening a drugs crate does not use the weapons reward table. An unusually valuable reward from one opening does not guarantee a similar result on your next opening.
Rare and Epic weapon or armor rewards are created as individual equipment pieces with rolled bonuses. Their individual properties matter when equipping or trading them. Other rewards are added as item stacks.
Successful crimes and specialty activities can make separate loot rolls. Earning cash does not guarantee an item drop. A crate drop and the reward obtained by opening that crate are also separate events.
Compare keeping, opening or trading an item using its available actions and current value. Opening exchanges a known crate for an uncertain reward; it is not a guaranteed profit.
